Keri Russell, one of Hollywood's most beautiful actresses, was born March 23, 1976 in Fountain Valley, California. Russell was a hearthrob for millions of young men, who watched her show Felicity from 1998 to 2002. She was famous for her beautiful, curly hair.
Russell's best movies: The Upside of Anger (2004); Waitress (2007); Wonder Woman (2009).
Russell's worst movies: Eight Days A Week (1997); The Curve (1998); Bedtime Stories (2008).
Critic's view: BBC writes of The Waitress, A truly terrific turn from Russell is what makes Waitress worth watching; her ability to switch seamlessly between comedic and poignant moments makes her impossible to dislike.
Critic's view: Roger Ebert writes of Awake, I got involved. I felt real suspense. I thought Lena Olin gave a nuanced performance as the mother, who is deeper than we first think, and that the tension between her and [Jessica] Alba was plausible.
Critic's view: IMDb writes of Romeo Is Bleeding, Lena Olin is at her menacing best; this is surely the role which landed her the gig as Sidney's subtly venomous mother in Alia, and she takes full advantage of the over-the-top femme fatale characterization with deadly verve... There aren't a lot of actresses who can out-menace Gary Oldman but Lena Olin absolutely pulls it off.
Critic's view: J.J. Abrams, Felicity co-creator and mastermind of Lost and Alias, says of Russell, We're the ones who learned from her. She had been doing this for so long. She came in, was maternal to the crew, was always prepared, and she helped other actors with their lines.
Did you know?: When Russell cut her hair short in the second season of Felicity, it caused a national storm and damaged the show's ratings. Years later, people still ask Russell, Why did you cut your hair?
.
On how she got into show business: I was a dancer and I went with my dance friends to go audition for something on the Disney Channel, which happened to be the Mickey Mouse Club, and they said, ‘Do you want to move to Florida and work with all these other kids and ride Space Mountain for free every day?’ ‘Yeah, that sounds great.’ And get to miss school for two months? ‘Shit, that sounds great.’
On leaving the tv show Felicity: I wasn’t surviving. I needed to be able to sleep past seven o'clock or not worry about how long my hair was or not worry about going to a photo shoot or not worry about saying the right thing in an interview... I took my money, rented an apartment in the West Village, brought two boxes of books and a suitcase, and had my mattress on the floor. I'd basically been working since I was 15 years old. I'd missed out on a lot of those years when you mess up or do bad things. I'd been so responsible for so long. I needed to check out.
