Mary-Louise Parker, August 2, 1964 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina is a Golden Globe winner for her role as Nancy Botwin in Weeds. She stars in Red with Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich.
She did not think people were going to like Weeds: I guess I feel like a mother selling drugs -- I didn't think people were really gonna go for it. In our country, people are really, really intense about drugs. Certainly as they should be, but I don't know... People generally don't take to mothers when they're not represented in an idealized way.

Parker is known for turning down Teri Hatcher's roles in Desperate Housewives: I feel like it's all right for me to admit it. I just felt like somebody else could probably do it a lot better. I felt like I was more suited to a different kind of world, and I hadn't read Weeds yet when I read Desperate Housewives ... But I think it might not have worked as well with me as with Teri Hatcher; she's totally suited to it, and she does a great job.
Asked whether she was unhappy about her nude bathtub scene in Weeds, she says laughs: When I've been in the middle of Times Square naked with a snake around my body to promote the series. It's not like I was bitter that I did a nude scene, you know? It's ridiculous.
Her nude scene with Demian Bichir was even more daring: You see way more in that scene than you see in the other one! I was more naked, if that's possible.
She describes her latest Hollywood movie, Reds, in which she stars with Bruce Willis as A screwball comedy... It's not incredibly modern or gritty or dirty. It's just positive and funny and light.
Parker is a writer for Esquire and has a lot of respect for writers. She even approaches acting roles with that same respect: Usually I'm trying to turn something around or turn it inside out and see what's underneath. I know that probably sounds incredibly vague but I never set out to be likeable or funny or anything like that. I'm just trying to tell the story in the best way that I can and serve the writer because it's really about the writer.
Of future plans, Parker says her role in Weeds: is good for my kids if I can do concentrated work, so the rest of the year, I can be with them. I like having regular hours. I'm kind of blue-collar in that sense, you know? I don't like to sit around much, because I start to get really spacey. I like to work a lot, keep working, keep doing stuff. If I'm inert for too long, I kind of wilt.
