Jon Huntsman, in common with GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney, is a Mormon with gubernatorial experience.
He has served in the administrations of four U.S. presidents, most recently as President Obama's U.S. ambassador to China. Huntsman is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.
Huntsman resigned from his post as ambassador on April 30, 2011.
Although he has considerable political experience, including a stint as Governor of Utah, Huntsman's campaign has not lifted.
He is socially conservative but moderate on a number of issues, including same sex unions, immigration, and global warming, which makes him unpopular among hardline conservatives.
