The three Twin Peaks women
Twin Peaks, a cult 1990 television hit directed by David Lynch, threw three young actresses into the limelight. Mädchen Amick, Lara Flynn Boyle, and Sherilyn Fenn seemed desitined for superstardom. But it didn't happen. Since then, they've had undistinguished movie careers, but have made a mark on tv. Where are they today?
Amick bio: Born December 12, 1970 in Reno, Nevada.
Twin Peaks role: Played waitress Shelly Johnson.
Amick's best movies: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992); Dream Lover (1994); Casting About (2007).
Amick's worst movies: Sleepwalkers (1992); Trapped in Paradise (1994); The Rats (2002).
Critic's view: Roger Ebert writes Dream Lover,
The woman, named Lena, is played by Mädchen Amick with a tantalizing mixture of beauty and danger. Some of her best scenes in the movie come when she is lying, perfectly and seamlessly... As for Mädchen Amick, a stunning beauty with an edgy intelligence, [director] Kazan has given her a role that grows more interesting as it deepens.
Where is Amick now?: Amick has a striking similarity to Brit actress Kate Winslet, who is an Oscar winner and Hollywood A-lister. Sadly, Amick's movie career has stumbled.
She is a busy tv actress, with appearances in Central Park West, Fantasy Island, Dawson's Creek, Gilmore Girls, ER, Law & Order, Kidnapped, Californication, and CSI: NY.
Lara Flynn Boyle
Flynn Boyle bio: Born March 24, 1970 in Davenport, Iowa.
Twin Peaks role: Played Laura Palmer's best friend Donna Hayward.
Flynn Boyle's best movies: Dead Poets Society (1989); Red Rock West (1993); Happiness (1998).
Flynn Boyle's worst movies: Mobsters (1991); The Temp (1993); Land of the Blind (2006).
Critic's view Roger Ebert writes of Red Rock West,
Lara Flynn Boyle, cool under fire, diabolical in her ingenuity, has both [Nicholas] Cage and the audience wondering how she really thinks about him; one of the pleasures the movie saves until the very end is a revelation of what she really values, and why.
Where is Flynn Boyle now?: She was famous for her romance with Jack Nicholson from 1999 to 2000. She has done notable tv work on Ally McBeal, Huff, Las Vegas, Law &, and The Practice.
Fenn bio: Born February 1, 1965 in Detroit, Michigan.
Twin Peaks role: Played Audrey Horne.
Fenn's best movies: Wild at Heart (1990); Of Mice and Men (1992); Three of Hearts (1993).
Fenn's worst movies: Two Moon Junction (1988); Boxing Helena (1993); Outside Ozone (1998).
Critic's view Roger Ebert writes of Fenn in Of Mice And Men,
Curley's wife is sexy, and she knows it. Played by Sherilyn Fenn, she enjoys her little starring role on the farm -- likes to know the eyes of the men follow her as she walks across the yard, just as in Paris a woman walks a little differently past a cafe
Where is Fenn now?: She has had an on-off career since Twin Peaks. Fenn has appeared in a number of low budget independents. She sums up her career well with these,
I certainly don't sit around thinking of what I am most proud of. Obviously, Twin Peaks because it is something that has stood the test of time. However, it is David's brilliance that enabled that. I am proud of my work in Of Mice And Men. And The Elizabeth Taylor Story.
